Key features & workflows

Account management

Create multiple accounts for different blockchains. Each account displays balances, transaction history, and performance metrics. Accounts are derived from the recovery phrase stored on your Ledger device; Ledger Live only reads public addresses and transaction history.

Send & receive

When sending funds, Ledger Live constructs the transaction and sends it to your Ledger device to be signed. The device displays destination addresses and amounts so you can verify before approving. This prevents malware on your computer from altering transaction details unnoticed.

Swap, buy, and stake

Ledger Live integrates with trusted third-party providers to perform swaps, purchases, and staking. These partners handle execution while your keys remain on-device for final signature. Fees and partner terms may vary — review them before proceeding.

Portfolio & export

Monitor your overall portfolio, export CSVs for accounting or taxes, and filter transaction history. Ledger Live also offers price alerts and market overviews to help you stay informed.

Troubleshooting & common questions

Ledger Live can't detect my device
Check your USB cable/port, ensure the device is unlocked, and your device firmware is up to date. For Bluetooth connections on mobile, ensure pairing is enabled and trusted.
How do I update firmware?
Ledger Live will notify you of firmware updates. Only update firmware via Ledger Live and follow prompts on the device. Verify the update source and release notes before applying.
I lost my device — what now?
Use your recovery phrase to restore access to your funds on a new Ledger device or any compatible wallet. If you used a passphrase, you'll need that as well to recover those hidden accounts.
Can I use Ledger Live without a Ledger device?
No. Ledger Live is designed to work with a Ledger hardware wallet; signing operations require the physical device.

Security considerations

Ledger Live is built so private keys never leave the secure element inside your Ledger device. Key security practices include:

  • Always verify addresses and amounts on the device screen before approving.
  • Keep your recovery phrase offline — do not photograph or store it digitally.
  • Use a passphrase for additional protection if you need hidden wallets or plausible deniability.
  • Keep Ledger Live and your device firmware up to date to receive security patches.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ledger Live open source?
Ledger provides parts of Ledger Live's code for audit; consult official resources for the current status and repositories.
Can I export my private keys from Ledger?
No. Ledger devices are designed to keep private keys securely inside the secure element — they are not exportable.
Where can I get help?
Use the official support center, knowledge base, and community forums for step-by-step guides, troubleshooting, and contact options.
